The first live surgery broadcast of the Third Sino-Euro International Orthopaedics Summit (SEOS 2023) (Global Live Surgery Broadcast) will be held at Shantou University Guangzhou Huaxin Orthopaedic Hospital on September 15th.

From 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. of Beijing Time, September 15th, two outstanding leaders from Germany and China in pediatric orthopaedics - Dr. Leidinger, a famous German master on pediatric orthopaedics and Director of the Department of Pediatric Orthopaedics and Neuro-Orthopedics Surgery of Orthopedic Clinic Volmarstein, and Dr. LI Xu, a well-known expert in pediatric orthopaedics in China and the President of Shantou University Guangzhou Huaxin Orthopaedic Hospital - will join hands to perform a surgery as a demonstration, exchange the philosophy of the treatment and techniques in pediatric orthopaedics of China and Germany, and discuss the surgical treatment for multiple epiphyseal dysplasia (MED) with hip subluxation. They will demonstrate a minimally invasive pelvic osteotomy in children on live. The meeting venue will be set at Shantou University Guangzhou Huaxin Orthopaedic Hospital with a live broadcast. From September 11th to 15th of 2023, Dr. Leidinger, Director of the Department of Pediatric Orthopaedics and Neuro-Orthopedics Surgery of Orthopedic Clinic Volmarstein, visited Shantou University Guangzhou Huaxin Orthopaedic Hospital as an international visiting professor, and carried out a series of academic exchanges at the hospital, including attending outpatient consultation, ward rounds, case discussions, offering surgical guidance, cultivating talents of departments, having discussion on department management and complex cases, and giving public lectures, etc.

The Department of Paediatric Orthopaedics of Shantou University Guangzhou Huaxin Orthopaedic Hospital, the former department of Paediatric Orthopaedics of the Third Affiliated Hospital of Southern Medical University, was founded by Dr. LI Xu in July 2011. In October 2018, Dr. LI Xu brought his team to Guangzhou Huaxin Orthopaedic Hospital. Since then, specialty construction has scaled new heights and there are increasing international academic exchanges and cooperation. In May 2020, an emeritus professor of the Columbia University Prof. David P. Roye Jr., former director of the Department of Paediatric Orthopaedics of Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital joined the Department of Paediatric Orthopaedics of Shantou University Guangzhou Huaxin Orthopaedic Hospital, aiming at providing medical services of better quality and cultivating Chinese pediatric orthopedists to keep pace with the world.

The department now serves as the Vice Chairman Unit of the Group of Pediatric Orthopaedics, Branch of Orthopaedics, Chinese Medical Doctor Association, and the Chairmen Unit of the Group of Pediatric Orthopaedics, Branch of Orthopaedics, Guangdong Medical Doctor Association. It has great competence and distinctive characteristics in this field; in addition to commonly seen children’s trauma and diagnosis and treatment of deformities, the team is able to provide world-class services of high quality in areas that fellow surgeons in China rarely dabble in. For instance, treatment of cerebral palsy-related limb and spinal deformities and moto dysfunctions. In September 2020, a first-class 3D gait laboratory in China officially established in the hospital.
